Once upon a time, there was a small island whose inhabitants spoke Spanglish and liked sandwiches. Unfortunately, they had a difficult time getting sandwich supplies to their island. Of particular difficulty was mayonnaise, because it needed to be refrigerated in transport, and with their technology, its shelf-life ended up significantly shorter than other sandwich necessities. To solve this problem, the islanders would watch for cruise ships from which they could purchase extra mayonnaise, but this was usually in small quantities, because the ships needed to hold on to most of their supplies for vacationers.
In 1912, they noticed an enormous cruise ship on the horizon, and were excited to be able to get a little more mayonnaise than usual. As the ship approached, it collided with an enormous ice burgh, and slowly began to sink. While saddened by all the death on their shores, this day was significant for them because they could get ALL they mayonnaise off the sunken ship. In celebration, the island children would run up and down the beach shouting "Cinco de mayo!!"
